AMD CPU Share Rises to ~37% on Steam; NVIDIA RTX 4060 Laptop GPU Overtakes Desktop Variant

To say that Intel’s going through a rough patch would be an understatement. The Core Ultra 200S “Arrow Lake” processors have disappointed, and most of its latest offerings are fabbed on TSMC’s N3B (3nm) process node. There’s no sign of the fabled 20A technology, while the Arc dGPU family has been more of a myth than reality. It’s no surprise that the chipmaker’s stock price has halved over the last year, and CEO Pat Gelsinger recently announced his (forced?) retirement.

The Steam Hardware Survey echoes similar sentiments. Intel’s Windows PC market share dropped to 63%, paving the way for AMD to close in on the 40% mark. By November’s end, AMD accounts for 36.68% of Steam’s Windows users and 69.85% of its Linux users. Team Red gained +1.94% market share in November, attaining its highest in recent history.

NVIDIA RTX 4060 Laptop GPU Tops Steam Charts

NVIDIA continues to account for the vast majority of users in the GPU segment. Its most popular SKUs include its notebooks SKUs, specifically the GeForce RTX 3060 and RTX 4060 Laptop GPUs, followed by the RTX 3050, RTX 4070 Laptop GPU, and the RTX 4070 Super. On AMD’s side, the Radeon RX 6750 GRE 10 GB and the RX 7700 XT were the most popular graphics cards among Steam users in November.

The GeForce RTX 3060 continues to lead the GPU share hierarchy, followed by the RTX 4060 which has been immensely successful despite its mediocre performance and 8 GB VRAM buffer. Furthermore, the RTX 4060 Laptop GPU now outranks its desktop counterpart as the second most common SKU on Steam. It has also surpassed its predecessor in market share by nearly 70% (5.5% vs 3.28%).

Germany Chooses AMD Radeon

via TechEpiphany

Contrary to the Steam numbers, Germany’s larger retailer Mindfactory witnessed increased sales of Radeon GPUs, led by the RX 7800 XT and the RX 7900 XT. AMD sold 2,250 units, slightly leading NVIDIA’s 1,985 unit sales. However, the latter pulled in more revenue due to the higher 626 Euro ASP (versus 524).
