The Radeon RX 7800 XT is the most popular RDNA 3 graphics card in the DIY segment. It has conquered bestseller charts globally by offering similar raster performance as the $599 GeForce RTX 4070 for $100 less. Unfortunately, as demand increases, so do the prices. When reporting, the cheapest Radeon RX 7800 XT starts at $539.99, mostly reference cards or basic AIB models. The factory overclocked variants are going well over $550.
These numbers explain why NVIDIA would launch a mid-cycle “Super” refresh, even though it holds the performance crown in most segments. The GeForce RTX 4070 Super will launch on the 17th of January, with more cores (7168 vs 5888) and cache (48MB vs 36MB). It should offer a healthy 15-20% performance uplift at the same price as the 4070 or less. Meanwhile, the RTX 4070 will get a price cut to $499 or $549.
