After the lukewarm release of the Ryzen 9000 processors, AMD is gearing up for a safer bet, primarily targeting gamers. We’re talking about the Ryzen 5 7600X3D, allegedly scheduled to launch next month (September) for about $249. Sources close to “Moore’s Law is Dead” believe the hex-core 3D V-Cache chip will land in the first half of September with a TDP of 65W (PPT: 88W). The pricing is yet to be fixed, but the chipmaker will likely target the sub-$300 market with this SKU.
Unfortunately, the Ryzen 5 7600X3D will be marketed and distributed as an OEM/SI-only processor, and DIY availability at launch will remain limited. The 7600X3D will feature 6 cores and 12 threads backed by 96 MB of L3 cache (32 MB + 64 MB 3D V-Cache) and a boost clock of under 5 GHz. Being a 65W SKU, it may be released with a boxed cooler.
The Ryzen 7 5800X3D Says Goodbye
On the flipside, the highly successful Ryzen 7 5800X3D is being discontinued (gradually). AMD is shifting its focus to the AM5 platform which has largely been ignored in the budget segments. The Zen 3 has already been refreshed (Ryzen 5000 XT) and includes multiple 3D V-Cache variants (more inbound). The Ryzen 7 7800X3D is by far AMD’s most successful AM5 processor. Team Red will want to replicate the same success with the more affordable 7600X3D in the coming months.
