AMD Ryzen 9000 Prices Leak Out: Ryzen 9 9900X $100 Cheaper than the 7900X

The prices of AMD’s Ryzen 9000 processors have leaked out, as spotted by 188号 on BestBuy. As reported earlier, the prices are lower than the launch prices of the preceding Ryzen 7000 family. The highlight will be the Ryzen 9 9900X, with an expected market price of $449, down from $549 for the 7900X and 7900X3D (at launch). The Ryzen 5 9600X is 6.7% cheaper than its predecessor, with an MSRP of $279, while the Ryzen 7 9700X is 90% more affordable with a sticker price of $359.

The Ryzen 9 9950X is launching at $599, $100 less than the Ryzen 9 7950X, and roughly $100 more than the latter’s current market price. It’s worth noting that the release of Intel’s Raptor Lake and AMD’s own Zen 4 X3D CPUs has led to significant price reductions of the vanilla Raphael lineup. Consequently, beating the incumbents (on a bang-for-buck basis) will be a challenge for the Zen 5 newcomers even if they are considerably faster.

CPULaunch PriceCurrent Market Price
AMD Ryzen 9 7950X$699$522
AMD Ryzen 9 7900X$549$358
AMD Ryzen 7 7700X$399$291
AMD Ryzen 5 7600X$299$197
AMD Ryzen 9 9950X$599
AMD Ryzen 9 9900X$449
AMD Ryzen 7 9700X$359
AMD Ryzen 5 9600X$279

As the above table indicates, the Ryzen 9000 CPUs will launch at slightly to moderately higher price tags than the existing Ryzen 7000 parts. At the lower end, this is mostly insignificant as prices haven’t dropped significantly. However, at the top end, we’ve got the Ryzen 9 7900X going for just $358, while the 9900X is set to cost $449. Similarly, the Ryzen 9 9950X will compete with the 7950X which costs nearly $100 lower.

And then there are the Ryzen 7 7800X3D, the Ryzen 9 7900X3D, and the 7950X3D. The 7800X3D has been selling under $400 for a while now, and according to AMD themselves, it’ll be faster (or at least as fast) than the 9950X. This makes the upcoming Ryzen 9000 CPUs potential buys for a limited audience.

Gamers building PCs on a budget may consider the Ryzen 5 9600X or even the Ryzen 7 9700X in regions where the 7800X3D hasn’t dropped much in price. The Ryzen 9 9900X and 9950X make little sense for gamers, while content creators could go either way. Since the core/thread counts are unchanged, they won’t be hard-pressed to upgrade this time around.
