AMD Ryzen AI 300 CPUs up to 20% Faster with RTX 2050-Level RDNA 3.5 GPU

AMD has updated its notebook processor branding to emphasize the focus on AI performance and challenge Intel in the flashy new segment. That means NPU TOPs, faster GPUs, and a switch to Ryzen AI 300 instead of the expected Ryzen 9000 scheme. AMD claims this is to denote the coming of the third-generation NPU architecture, but it’s no less confusing. According to “Golden Pig Upgrade Pack,” the Ryzen AI 9 300 CPUs are up to 20% faster than Ryzen 7040/8040 in single and multi-threaded workloads.

The source learned about the expected performance targets of the Ryzen AI 300 CPUs at MSI’s Computex booth. The Strix Point mobile processors allegedly produce Cinebench R23 single-core and multi-core scores of 2000+ and 20000+, respectively. The integrated Radeon 890M (RDNA 3.5) GPU nets a TimeSpy score of 3600+ points, placing it on par with the GeForce RTX 2050 dGPU. And that’s not even the fastest RDNA 3.5 part.

Strix Halo will feature a disaggregated iGPU die with up to 40 CUs or 2560 stream processors clocked north of 2.5 GHz. This monster SoC will likely be faster and more power efficient than the upcoming Sony PlayStation 5 Pro console, powering the fastest lightweight gaming laptops and convertibles.
