Some interesting info surfaced during MSI’s live benchmarking session of the RTX 4060 Ti 16GB. Despite featuring the same specs as the 8GB variant minus the larger memory buffer, the 16GB model ended up slightly slower. And the best part is that this happened across four games where the lows were also higher on the 8GB SKU. Theoretically, this makes no sense, so either MSI made a mistake, or their RTX 4060 Ti Gaming X Slim 16GB isn’t running at the advertised clocks.
The funny thing about all this is that earlier AIBs refused to market the 16GB variant of the RTX 4060 Ti, calling it a PR stunt that offers bad value. For all intents and purposes, the 8GB model performs the same as its 16GB sibling, and very few (high-resolution) cases arise where the opposite is true.
On a more personal note, NVIDIA didn’t sample the RTX 4060 Ti 16GB. We only got a veiled press release on the day of the launch. There are almost no available units on the market, and I reckon these cards won’t be manufactured on a large basis as AIBs know that they won’t sell.
