NVIDIA’s lower-end RTX 40 series cards have been thoroughly panned for their narrow VRAM buffers and nominal gen-over-gen gains. The RTX 4060 and 4060 Ti, in particular, were ignored by most gamers and enthusiasts. Due to the limited memory budget, these SKUs are slower than their predecessors in some titles. The RTX 3060 12GB beats the RTX 4060 as well, as the 4060 Ti in Sony’s latest PC release, Rachet and Clank. Source: PCGamesHardware.
To make matters worse, the GeForce RTX 2060 12GB, a two-old GPU, is nearly as fast as the RTX 4060 Ti 8GB. The former averages 50.1 FPS, while the latter averages 50.1 FPS with identical 1% lows of 38 FPS. Seeing as how the 16GB variant is much faster, with an average of 85 FPS, this is certainly the result of a memory bottleneck.
The GeForce RTX 4060 Ti 16GB was released nearly a month after the 8GB variant with no review samples to go around. Moreover, the performance deltas in most titles are within the margin of error. The few games faster on the former are outliers and the cause for such posts.
