NVIDIA launched the GeForce RTX 5060 in late May with the same 8 GB buffer as its predecessor. The Blackwell budget GPU was panned by gamers and reviewers for its lacklustre performance (versus the RTX 4060 and the 4060 Ti). Despite that, the RTX 5060, particularly the laptop variant, has emerged as the bestselling GPU of June.

- The GeForce RTX 5060 Laptop GPU was adopted by about half a percent of the overall Steam user base in June 2025.
- A second unnamed NVIDIA GPU gained a similar +0.41% market share, and there’s a good chance we’re looking at custom mobility variants of the same GPU.
- The RTX 5060 (desktop) came in third, gaining +0.34% GPU market share across the month.
- The RTX 4060 Laptop GPU continued its growing streak, increasing its share by +0.34% to 4.99% by the end of June.
- The RTX 5070 (desktop) gained +0.28% market share, increasing its foothold to 0.99% three months after launch.
NVIDIA RTX 4060 Laptop GPU: The Most Popular Steam GPU
There are interesting market trends to take away from the Steam GPU distribution over the last six months. For example:
- The GeForce RTX 4060 Laptop GPU is the only bestseller that increased its share throughout H1 2025, from 3.70% to 4.99%.
- The same can be said for the RTX 3060 Laptop GPU, which gained a point share, from 2.05% to 2.59%.
- The GTX 1650 (desktop and mobile) followed a similar trend despite being over 5 years old.

In contrast, all the desktop GPUs saw a sharp decline in their user base, many of them shrinking to half the share over the last two quarters:
- The GeForce RTX 3060 dropped from 6.87% to 4.57%.
- The RTX 4060 saw its market share shrink from 8.57% to 4.41%.
- The RTX 4060 Ti ownership reduced from 6.56% to 3.03%.
- The RTX 4070 market share has reduced to less than half in the same period, from 5.43% to 2.31%.
- Even the relatively recent RTX 4070 Super witnessed a halving of its user base.
Many of these users may have upgraded to the succeeding RTX 50 series parts, but plenty are unaccounted for, particularly former RTX 40 desktop owners. All of Steam’s RTX 30/RTX 40 desktop GPU shares have steeply declined, while the laptop variants have shown moderate growth.
AMD Radeon RX 9000 GPUs Still MIA
None of AMD’s Radeon RX 9000 series GPUs have a presence on the Steam Hardware Survey. The reasons are plenty, partially stemming from the poor ray-tracing performance of previous Radeon generations:

- FSR 3 gained widespread adoption, but it offered notably worse image quality compared to DLSS 3.
- FSR 3-based frame generation suffers from frame pacing issues, requiring v-sync for playable performance.
- DLSS 4 is available across all RTX GPUs. FSR 4 delivers comparable quality, but remains limited to the RX 9000 GPUs.
- FSR 4 is only supported in 65 games, while DLSS 4 is available across hundreds of titles, including older DLSS 2 releases.
- Radeon’s absence from the laptop market is especially glaring, considering the most popular Steam GPUs are mobile.
- The Radeon RX 9070 GPUs are still overpriced, while rival RTX 50 series parts are now available at MSRP.
- The Radeon RX 9060 XT 16 GB should have been priced similarly to the RTX 5060. Instead, it’s currently going for $360.
