AMD’s Ryzen 9000 processors are coming to retail next month, with an average IPC gain of 16%. Gaming workloads will see varying gains, from 4% in Borderlands to 23% in Borderlands 3. Some titles will see an even larger uplift in performance with Zen 5. Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora is one such game, with a performance lead of 34% over the Intel Core i9-13900K.

The Ryzen 9 9900X averages 229 FPS at 1080p “High” in Avatar Frontiers of Pandora, up from 171 FPS on the Core i9-13900K using the Radeon RX 7900 XTX, per Tom’s Hardware. That implies a performance lead of at least 34% over Intel’s 13th Gen Raptor Lake flagship. Of course, the 14th Gen Core i9-14900K is a few percent faster than the 13900K, but it’s also a thermal abomination with in-game thermals of 90C and above.

This might be a best-case scenario, so waiting for next month’s launch is highly recommended. We’ll keep you updated as more benchmarks surface. In the meantime, you can go through our Zen 5 core architecture analysis.
