NVIDIA RTX 4060 Mobile, RTX 5070 & AMD RX 7800 XT: April’s Bestselling Gaming GPUs

NVIDIA’s GeForce RTX 4060 Laptop GPU was April’s most sought-after graphics card for the nth consecutive month. The mobility graphics processor gained +0.51% market share on Steam, increasing its overall share to 4.99%. It underlines the shift of the midrange PC audience to notebooks and gaming laptops.

The high-end and upper midrange gaming segment continues to be focused on the desktop space, evidenced by the popularity of the GeForce RTX 5070, RTX 5070 Ti, and the Radeon RX 7800 XT:

  • The RTX 5070 was the second most adopted GPU among Steam players in April, gaining +0.38% market share only a month following its March release.
  • The Radeon RX 7800 XT came in third, gaining +0.28% share, its first appearance on the Steam database. It’s also the only AMD GPU among the top-ten share gainers.
  • The RTX 5070 Ti rivaled the RX 7800 XT with the same +0.28% share increase, albeit at a much higher >$800 price point.
  • The RTX 5080 was the fifth most popular GPU among Steam gamers, gaining +0.18% market share, increasing its overall share to 0.38%.

Gamers Buy Blackwell & Mobility RTX GPUs

Buyers seem unhinged by Blackwell’s limited gen-over-gen performance gains and inflated market pricing. The Radeon RX 9070 series remains available but well over its official MSRP. We might see gamers nudge towards these SKUs in the coming months.

NVIDIA’s RTX x60/x50 class GPUs continue to dominate the Steam hardware database, led by the RTX 4060, RTX 3060, GTX 1650, RTX 4060 Ti, RTX 3050, and the RTX 3060 Ti. The most popular Radeon GPU (RX 6600) holds a meager 0.93% share, followed by the decade-old RX 580 with 0.73%.

Ryzen Continues to Rise

AMD Ryzen CPUs have been eating away at Intel’s market share for years, and results are finally becoming apparent. The archrivals are approaching share parity on Steam, with AMD close to hitting the 40% mark for the first time.

  • By April’s end, AMD CPU share reached 38.68%, up from 37.62% the month before.
  • Intel’s share decreased by a percent to 61.25%.
  • The popularity of the X3D CPUs paired with Arrow Lake’s lackluster gaming performance will likely continue this trend for the foreseeable future.
